It can't happen here … wait, it IS happening here! Wake Up!

Beth fired me up with her blog yesterday which is what made this a call to arms. I read it, slept on it, visited several sites, including Michelle Malkin's to get more information and am now really wondering what this all means. It means, gentle reader, that the gloves are off. Stay on top of politically-motivated moves to restrict your freedom of speech (among others) and remind your representatives they have solemnly sworn to " … support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic …" A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government. Write your representatives, there is the link - Now!

CNET reporter Declan McCullagh has written a call to arms here Go read it, you can come right back.

I, too, am joining the McCain-Feingold Insurrection.

Pay attention people. Go also to this site Geek with a .45. Read every link. Did you go read it? If not, here is a quote: "That's Far Enough. Drop your scissors, put your hands in the air, and step away from the Bill of Rights." There's something happening here … the Insurrection.

Don Henley's, Inside Job is well worth buying. Listen to the title cut; wait, I will make it easier for you, here are the lyrics. It was written in the year 2000. Listen up people, this is important! (Is this considered a campaign contribution?)

Inside Job
Don Henley/Mike Campbell

While you were sleeping
They came and took it all away
The lanes and the meadows
The places where you used to play

It was an inside job
By the well-connected
Your little protest
Summarily rejected

It was an inside job
Like it always is
Chalk it up
To business as usual

While you are dreaming
This little island disappears
While you are looking the other way
They'll take your right to own your own ideas

And it's an inside job
Favors collected
Your trusted servants
Have left you unprotected

It was an inside job
Like it always is
Just chalk it up
To business as usual

You think that you're so smart
But you don't have a fucking clue
What those men up in the towers
Are doing to me and you
And they'll keep doin' it and doin' it
And doin' it and doin' it
And doin' it and doin' it
And doin' it and doin' it
Until we all wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up

I know what I've done wrong
I am acquainted with the night
I know how hard it is
To always walk out in the light

And it's an inside job
To learn about forgiving
It's an inside job
To hang on to the joy of living

They know the road by which you came
They know your mother's maiden name
And what you had for breakfast
And what you've hidden in the mattress

Insect politics
Indifferent universe
Bang your head against the wall
But apathy is worse

It's an inside job
It's an inside job
It's an inside job
Yeah, yeah

It's an inside job
It's an inside job
It's an inside job
It's an inside job

It's an inside job
It's an inside job

What is it that Congress doesn't get about the First Amendment? I am doing nothing illegal when I post links to politicians that I support. I have previously done that with my post about Kinky Friedman, who is running for Governor of the State of Texas.

So is my posting of the Kinky Friedman Campaign Donation link below breaking the law? I think not. The First Amendment gives the every right to do this, among other things.

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

What is next on the FEC agenda, banning yard signs; eavesdropping on my conversations with friends to ensure I don't run afoul of this incredibly stupid political stance? Hello McFly!

OK, how many of you remember this Buffalo Springfield song. I know it by heart, because I was singing it on college campus before I went to Vietnam … it's in my DNA.

For What It's Worth
Stephen Stills, 1966

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Tellin' me I gotta beware
I think it's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

I'm in, lock and load.
